Getting to Home - Trail Area
Provides direct support (based on the Housing First model) to assist individuals who are homeless or at risk of homelessness to transition into safe and affordable housing.
The Housing Facilitator develops a Housing Needs Plan with individuals to determine needs, and then works with them to ensure appropriate supports are in place so housing can be maintained
The program acts as a liaison for both landlords and tenants ensuring rental housing is being adequately maintained and there is respect for property.
In addition, CDS staff facilitates the development of additional units of housing to meet the needs of all those living in a homeless situation. This includes looking at converting existing older housing stock into safe, affordable rental housing units.
Staff also works with a Homelessness Action Committee to ensure strategic plan initiatives are resulting in a more cohesive and integrated delivery of service to those individuals requiring support to maintain stable housing.
In addition, CDS offers the La Nina Emergency Shelter, and various Employment Support programs including the Thrifty Treasures Thrift Store
