Academic Upgrading - Selkirk College
Designed to allow mature students, generally over 18 years of age, to develop academic skills, personal management skills and teamwork skills for use in the labour force, in further academic training and in their communities.
Student-centered and makes every effort to accommodate students' individual learning needs. Flexibility of courses, hours and delivery depends on the particular campus.
Offerings range from fundamental skill levels to the equivalent of Grade 12 completion. Students can also receive tutoring for distance education courses, may also receive help to prepare to write the General Education Diploma examinations.
Upgrading courses are tuition free; the BC government funds Adult Basic Education. Also, possible to apply for an Adult Upgrading Grant (AUG), a government grant to help cover any additional costs of returning to school. It can help with transportation, unsubsidized daycare, and the cost of supplies and student fees.
