BC PharmaCare

Provides coverage of eligible prescription drugs and medical supplies through several drug plans. For most PharmaCare plans,  enrollment in the Medical Services Plan of B.C. (MSP) is required.

B.C. residents are eligible for coverage under the following PharmaCare plans:

  • Fair PharmaCare - B.C.’s income-based plan. Most B.C. residents are covered by this plan. Register online 24 hours a day, 7 days a week or by phone M-F 8am - 8pm, Sat: 8am - 4pm
  • First Nations Health Benefits  (Plan W) For those enrolled with the First Nations Health Authority 
  • Recipients of Income Assistance from the Province of British Columbia (Plan C) Ministry of Social Development will register individuals
  • Psychiatric Medications (Plan G) Available to BC residents of any age who demonstrate clinical and financial need. Covers certain psychiatric medications and certain drugs for the treatment of opioid addiction.  Talk to prescriber re signing up.
  • Permanent Residents of Licensed Residential Care Facilities (Plan B) Note: Does not apply to those staying in extended care, acute care,multilevel or assisted living facilities.
  • Cystic Fibrosis (Plan D) For those registered with a provincial cystic fibrosis clinic
  • Children in the At Home Program  (Plan F) Program of the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) which will register on behalf of child.
  • BC Palliative Care Drug Plan (Plan P)  For those who choose to receive palliative care at home Physicians submit an application on behalf of patient.
  • Assurance Plan (Plan Z) Currently covers Mifegymiso and Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD) medications. Coverage is automatic when prescription is filled.
  • Smoking Cessation (Plan S) Helps eligible BC residents to stop smoking or using other tobacco products by covering cost of nictine replacement therapy products or covering some of the cost of specific smoking cessation medications.
  • BC Centre for Excellence in HIV/AIDS (Plan X). The Drug Treatment program ensures those eligible who are living with HIV have access to free antiretroviral therapy.
  • Medication Management (Plan M) covers individuals for eligible services provided by pharmacies
