ANKORS Regional Harm Reduction and Supplies Program
Provides individuals and various agencies in the West Kootenay Boundary region with harm reduction supplies including clean needles, safer inhalation supplies, heroin foil kits, naloxone (narcan) and vitamins.
ANKORS supplies fixed sites as follows:
- Nelson: ANKORS office
- New Denver: Slocan Community Health Centre
- Edgewood: Edgewood Health Centre
- Trail: Pharmasave
- Grand Forks: Pharmasave
- Also operates a mobile unit that goes to communities in the West Kootenay Boundary. Call the Coordinator to arrange a meeting place and time.
The Harm Reduction Coordinator does street outreach work that includes visiting people' homes, talking to individuals on the street, attending raves and other events and actively working to find new pockets of drug use within various populations.
Within the IV drug using population the program works to foster a sense of responsibility and to facilitate peer education. It reaches out to, and networks with, those affected by drug use including those who use drugs, their families, and the broader community.
This program is part of a comprehensive approach by ANKORS to the prevention of HIV / AIDS, Hepatitis B and C and other harms associated with the use of drugs.
NOTE: Free supplies also available at all Mental Health and Substance Use (MHSU) offices in the West Kootenay Boundary area.
