Healing Our Spirits: Aboriginal Mental Health and Substance Use Program - West Kootenay Boundary
Offers support and services to persons of Aboriginal ancestry, ages 15 to Elder, with substance use and/or mental health concerns. Services include:
- Cultural case management, individual (one to one) support and counselling and group support in a cultural setting
- Bi-weekly "Healing Our Spirits Talking Circle" recovery circles in 5 communities in the West Kootenay Boundary including Trail, Castlegar, Nelson, Grand Forks and Nakusp. Traditional circles include story telling, medicine wheel teachings and ceremony.
- Referrals and support to access other community resources and services
- Support and connection to the larger Aboriginal community, including Aboriginal gatherings, events, celebrations and ceremonies
- Cultural consultation and support to Interior Health Mental Health and Substance Use staff who are working with Aboriginal clients.
Circle participants may self-refer or be referred by a service provider.
