Canada Pension Plan: Survivor Benefits
Survivor Benefits are payable when a deceased contributor has made enough years of contributions to the CPP.
A lump sum death benefit is payable to the estate.
A monthly Survivor's Pension can be paid to a surviving spouse or common-law partner of the deceased. This benefit continues upon remarriage or a new relationship.
A flat-rate child's benefit is payable monthly for dependent children of the contributor. (Dependent: means children under the age of 18 or students between 18 and 25 in full time attendance at school or university).
