Family Action Network (FAN)

A network of people and service providers providing support and information about resources to families primarily in the Lower Columbia region of BC. 

  • Supports organizations that help families
  • Encourages all community organizations and members to invest in families
  • Championes or leads initiatives that go beyond the scope of a single organization; and helps to build on the good work already being done
  • Reaches out to and helps link families to each other, community resources, and our community at large

Current activities include:

An online Hub / Website that provides extensive and helpful information to families. Offers monthly calendars of activities for  children and youth in the Lower Columbia region plus contact and other information about helpful services & resources. 

Focus on Childrens' Early Years Development 

  • "Ages and Stages"  raises awareness about the importance of regularly checking all children from birth to age five for developmental milestones. Offered in partnership with local early childhood professionals,  the program provides a chance for local families to have a free, one hour appointment to check their child’s development. Families can ask questions during the appointment about topics like eating, sleeping, walking, behaviour and talking. 
  • Check Early Check Often  Several early learning centres in the Trail & Castlegar Area offer parents the opportunity to have their young children participate in early development check-ups

Encouraging the availability of "Easy Peezy (EZPZ)" comfort stations and family friendly washrooms in the region.

In conjunction with other groups, offers a variety of learning and networking events for families and service providers.
