Nelson Street Outreach

Works in collaboration with relevant service providers to identify members of Nelson’s ‘street culture’ population, assess their immediate and long-term needs for health, safety, and basic needs, and offer a range of supports and services designed to meet these needs.

Supports downtown business owners and the general public in their increased understanding, tolerance, and acceptance of the challenges of the ‘street culture’ population and to foster a culture of mutual respect.

Through a trauma-informed, health promotion, harm reduction, social inclusion, and education lens, offers:

  •     Assessment of needs
  •     Support & advocacy
  •     Information & referrals
  •     Accompaniment
  •     Inclusion activities
  •     Public education


 Services are offered throughout the year from Monday to Friday during daytime hours.

Aimee Beaulieu Transition House - Nelson Offers free, confidential, 24/7 temporary refuge and supportive services for women and their children leaving relationship violence. Please check web site or phone for COVID 19 protocols.
Child and Youth Community Mental Health - Nelson Provides supports and therapeutic counselling to children/youth and parents relating to children experiencing mental health issues. Referrals accepted only from MCFD’s Child and Youth Mental Health services.
Child and Youth Counselling - Nelson Provides counselling services and art/play therapy to children / youth who have experienced or witnessed abuse.
Cicada Place, Independence for Youth Program - Nelson Assists adolescents aged 16 to 22 to make the transition into responsible adulthood through developing independent living skills through one-to-one and group work. Some youth may reside at Cicada Place.
Family Counselling - Nelson Support for those adults/couples who are actively parenting children yet are experiencing emotional distress.
Sexual Abuse Intervention Program (SAIP) - Nelson Counselling services and art / play therapy for children and youth who have experienced sexual abuse.
Stopping the Violence (STV) Women's Counselling - Nelson Counselling for women who have experienced violence or abuse in adult relationships, sexual assault or childhood sexual abuse.
The PEACE Program for Children and Youth - Nelson Counselling services and Art / Play Therapy for children and youth who have witnessed abuse and family violence.
Women's Outreach - Nelson, Kaslo, Salmo and Slocan Valley Areas Offers support, either individually or in groups, to women who have experienced or are at risk of experiencing relationship abuse.
