Community Legal Assistance Society (CLAS)

Provides legal advice and assistance for the benefit of those who are physically, mentally, socially, economically or otherwise disadvantaged or whose human rights need protection.

Programs include:

  • Community Law Program - provides legal assistance to low-income people across BC. CLP services focus on legal issues in the areas of: housing security, income security, human rights, mental health rights, and workers’ rights. 
  • Mental Health Law Programprovides representation to those who have been involuntarily detained pursuant to the BC Mental Health Act or to those subject to the Mental Disorder Provisions of the Criminal Code of Canada.
  • BC Human Rights Clinic: provides representation to complainants who have cases before the BC Human Rights Tribunal. Services integrate information, advocacy and education
  • Community Advocate Support Line: provides support service specifically for legal advocates and community workers across BC.
  • Stand Informed Legal Advice Services provides free and confidential legal advice from a lawyer to anyone in British Columbia who has experienced sexual assault in BC.
  • SHARP (Sexual Harrassment Advice, Response and Prevention) Workplaces Legal Advice Clinic provides free and confidential legal advice from a lawyer to anyone in British Columbia who has experienced workplace sexual harassment in BC. (in partnership with EVA BC )
  • Community Legal Advocate Supervision Program provides timely and consistent access to legal supervision for Law Foundation funded Community Law Advocates from lawyers experienced in community law.
