Community Accountability Restorative Justice Programs

The Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General promotes Restorative Justice approaches to crime through the Community Accountability Programs (CAP).

These programs hold low risk, youth and adult offenders accountable for their actions, give victims a voice, repair the harm caused by an offence and help restore balance in the community.

Grants for ongoing activities are available each year.

Restorative justice models most often used are:

  • Victim-offender mediation
  • Family group conferencing
  • Community Justice Forums
  • Healing circles / Circle remedy approaches
  • Neighbourhood accountability boards/panels
