Society for Children and Youth of BC

A provincial advocacy organization dedicated to improving the well-being of children and youth. Provides a forum for multi-disciplinary exchange and action for organizations and individuals working with and for young people.

Sponsors the Child and Youth Legal Centre which is committed to improving the well-being of children and youth in British Columbia through the advancement of their legal rights. The role of the Centre is to advocate on behalf of vulnerable children and youth in BC.  Youth can contact the centre by phone or email and talk or meet with lawyer.

Other programs include:

  • Rights Awareness Program: Promoting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). This project also involved the development of a three-tier monitoring framework to assess compliance with the UNCRC
  • The Child and Youth Friendly Communities Program: Encouraging the development of Child and Youth Friendly Communities and helping community groups achieve this through activities that will improve the safety and well-being (including freedom from violence and abuse) of all children and youth in their community
