Income Tax Credits / Benefits
Individuals, families with children and seniors may be eligible for tax credits and various programs based on their annual income as reported to Revenue Canada through completing an income tax form.
Refundable Tax Credits include:
- GST credit
- BC Low Income Climate Action tax credit
Financial Assistance Programs based on yearly income that require submission of a completed application as well as annual filing of an income tax form include:
- Canada Child Tax Benefit, Child Disability Benefit, BC Early Childhood Tax Benefit & BC Family Bonus
- GIS, Allowance or Allowance for the Survivor
- Fair Pharmacare
- Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters
- Some in-home or community health care services
The Volunteer Income Tax Program is available in many communities in March & April of each year. to help low income persons complete their tax returns. Check with a local Community Services Agency or a Seniors' Centre for a schedule and more information.
Tax filing forms are generally available at a local Post Office.
