AIDS Network Outreach & Support Society (ANKORS)

Serves those living with and at the greatest risk of acquiring HIV / AIDS and/or Hepatitis B & C, who have difficulty obtaining services elsewhere, especially due to substance use, mental illness, sexual orientation, gender identity, race and ethnicity, and/or other social barriers.

Provides confidential Harm Reduction services throughout the West Kootenay Boundary region as well as in the East Kootenay. Services include:

Harm Reduction Supplies / Needle Exchange: a regional program distributes harm reduction supplies on a monthly basis to individuals and provides free supplies for pick-up at various locations.

Support & Advocacy: outreach, support and advocacy for individuals (plus caregivers and families) living with HIV / AIDS, Hepatitis C and their support persons. Including: visiting individuals, crisis interventionĀ  and ongoing counseling, and advocacy to ensure that each positive person receives a high standard of care and support from health care providers and support services.

Prevention & Education: provides education, information, resources and counselling services on HIV/AIDS prevention to communities in the region. Sessions are delivered to organizations, schools, employee groups, individuals and social service agencies.

Also hosts the TransConnect program which provides support and resources for Transgender and Gender Variant folksĀ  as well as offering educational workshops and resources for service providers, educators, mental health workers, and police in the Kootenays.
