Communication Assistance for Youth and Adults BC (CAYABC)
Supports adults aged 19 years and older who require an augmentative/alternative communication (AAC) system due to a severe communication disability i.e. speech that is not functional for daily communication.
Also serves students in Grade 12 who require an AAC system post-graduation.
The goal is to ensure that eligible individuals have access to the communication tools and professional support to enable them to create an adult life to the best of their abilities.
See the website for more information and for contact information for staff serving the Kootenay Boundary region.
NOTE: CAYA does not serve individuals whose primary communication disability is a hearing loss. Support available for these individuals from the Wavefront Centre for Communication Accessibility in Vancouver
