Caring Companions - Kaslo & Area

Provides social interaction and assistance to Kaslo and North Kootenay Lake seniors who are at risk of becoming socially isolated.

Companionship and assistance is provided by a trained volunteer and can take several forms, depending upon a seniors’ wishes:

  • Weekly one hour visits which can include playing board games or cards, reading aloud, going for a walk, or simply chatting over tea.
  • Regular telephone calls at agreed upon times (weekly, twice weekly or daily) to provide a friendly voice, willing ear and of course, peace of mind that someone will be checking in.
  • Volunteer assistance with shopping for groceries and other needed items every two weeks.

Volunteers are adults 19 years of age or older who have successfully completed the application process which includes completion of the volunteer training program, an application form, interview, criminal record check and signing of a confidentiality agreement.

Serves North and East Kootenay Lake communities including Ainsworth, Mirror Lake, Kaslo, Lardeau, Cooper Creek, Meadow Creek, Howser, Argenta, Johnson’s Landing, Crawford Bay, Riondel, Boswell and surrounding areas
