Trail Area Health and Environment Program - Home and Garden Program

The Trail Area Health & Environment Program (THEP) Home and Garden program helps families in Trail, Casino, Oasis, Rivervale, Waneta and Warfield keep their home and yard environments healthy and safe.  This includes Healthy Homes, Soil Management and Lead Safe Renovation programs.

The Healthy Homes Program is offered to expectant families and families with children 36 months of age or younger in Trail, Rivervale, Oasis, Warfield, Casino, and Waneta. Each family is offered an in-home visit by a Community Programs Representative to assess opportunities for reducing exposure to lead in the home and yard environment. The associated Family Health Program provides additional support to these families including a home visit with the public health nurse.

The Soil Management Program offers soil testing and yard assessment to all homes in Trail, Casino, Oasis, Rivervale, Waneta and Warfield. Advice may be offered on how to cover up bare soil and improve lawns, gardens and ground cover.  Soil replacement may be offered based on the assessment results.  Yard improvement or yard conditioning may be offered to improve ground cover or reduce areas of bare soil.  Vegetable gardens are also eligible and prioritized for soil testing.

The Lead Safe Renovation Program provides advice, 'how-to' guidance and free supplies for dust containment to anyone living in the Lower Columbia region.
