Victim Rights

A crime victim or a relative of a crime victim who has experienced physical and / or emotional harm during the commission of a crime, has the right to receive and provide information about the person who caused harm.

The National Parole Board can inform the victims and/or a family member:

  • Whether the offender if still in prison.
  • When the offender will be having a parole hearing.
  • What conditions will be attached to the offender's release.
  • What decisions have been made by the National Parole Board and the reasons for those decisions.

Victims may also receive Financial Assistance to attend a National Parole Board hearing. More information re application process, victims' rights and services: www.npb-cnlc.gc.ca/victims/victims_e.htm
